Friday 23rd October we made the very short journey to Norton Disney BE, to compete in the BE80 with Woody. In a harsh marking section we got a respectable 33.3% leaving us 3rd after dressage, which with firstly looking at the score I was a little disappointed but knowing we were 3rd gave me a little more hope!! Show jumping, I had to ride a plank upright which made me a little all over the place for the next resulting in a stop... All my fault but we finished with 4faults and 2 time! Cross country we had an absolute blast finishing clear well inside the time to come 9th!! Then on Saturday we started the long journey to Addington Manor for the NSEA Champs to compete in the 80-85cm team! We arrived around 4:00 to a very wet and soggy addington meaning we had to swap stables to one which wasn't an inch deep in water... Sunday I decided to take Woody for a well deserved hack as he had been stood still for a long time. We were the second to last team to compete with the first person eliminated and the next to clear I had a little bit of pressure, but it was an amazing experience to jump in the main arena. We came home with 12faults, all poles, but I didn't care. We have come so far with our showjumping and I am so very proud of both of us! Such an amazing experience!

On Saturday 10th October we travelled up to York for Askham Bryan BE 80. This was our first time at Askham so was pretty excited to see what it was like!! In our run up to Askham we had been to Speetly ODE and schooled round a 90-95-1m track so our showjumping situation was looking a lot better...! We had another amazing dressage of 28.0% which definitely could have been improved as we struck off on the wrong canter (which is a silly silly mistake...)which gave us a 5 straight away and we fell down a hole in the halt and so got a very generous 6.5! Showjumping looked inviting but I still had a few nerves... Had one unlucky pole, which was a real shame as we got an okay stride! We both thoroughly enjoyed cross country with 20 penalties which was all my fault as I didn't ride part A of a combination and he was already looking at part B... We had one stop but still made the time which I am still pretty surprised about as well!! On the hole a really encouraging day and we are both looking forward to Norton Disney for our last BE event of the season!! On the 12th of September we decided to return to BE as we were convinced our showjumping was back on top form. So on the 12th we took the journey down to Frickley Park to do the BE80. We started off with an amazing dressage of 27.3 to leave us in 2nd. Then it was the show jumping…! I had a look at the course from a distance, as I found if I got up close I found them to be massive, we then warmed up amazingly to go in with my confidence levels quite high! I set off and jumped the first... The second on the second go, the third and not the forth... Once again we were eliminated... Not what we would have hoped for. So what were we going to do me and mum had a good chat about all our options and decided to just throw everything at everything and keep going. So once again we set off for Speetley unaffiliated ODE 80cm. Another aammaazziinngg dressage of 27.5 to leave us second, but this time he was going showjumping weather he liked it or not... A much improved score of 4faults actually allowed me to go cross country!! 20 penalties cross country and one million time (as no one knew the optimum) definitely left us out the placings but we got round which was the main thing!!! Next up is JWS NSEA qualifiers and NSEA dressage qualifiers!! So recently the area competitions have been running and unfortunately me and Woody had to pull out of the area eventing due to us not being confident show jumping and not having a good 80cm run at carlton, let alone a good run at 90cm!! So we decided our main concern should be area dressage (Tuesday 4th August) so we have had quite a few dressage lessons and yesterday I ran through my test, as I won't have a chance now, as I go to pc camp tomorrow!! We have also had a lot of show jumping lessons and recently have finished jumping a course of 90-95cm! Also to have a bit of fun, we have been to Vale View Equestrian to do their 70cm & 80cm arena eventing!! Which both of us thoroughly enjoyed and really helped as we got our first clear show jumping round this year!!! Not the best of days at Carlton BE80 (28th June)... Woody did a fab dressage of 32% which left us 5th. He coped really well with the hard ground and greasy grass to get us a respectable score. Then we had a 2hour wait until showjumping so me and my parents went to walk both courses. The cross country was a lovely flowing course with a lot of room between fences and nice rolling hills that would give a good workout! The showjumping course was nice, a few oxers down hill that you had to watch and they obviously put it on a slight hill to cause problems!! Woody warmed up perfectly for our showjumping, popping every fence and hitting every stride... But that was a different story when we got in the arena. We have had some showjumping issues in the past and I thought that this time we were going to nail it, with me remembering everything my showjumping coach had told me we set to the first fence. After having 3 refusals, only managing to get to the 4th fence, we were eliminated... After a long travel home we thought of all the things that could have gone wrong and what could have been the matter... We have come to the conclusion that me and Woody haven't got a lot of confidence showjumping, so our new mission is to beat those demons 👹 Defiantly not the result I was hoping for but onwards and upwards we are now going to go to have some fun showjumping and for us both to get our confidence back!! Woody was fab at Pony Club Dressage! Scoring a 63.33% in the Novice Eventing Test 2013 and a 70.32% in the Introductory 2007. After not feeling we had done as well as we could of in the first test we took Seb's place (as he couldn't go) in the introductory, and I'm glad we did! I changed a few things to help us get a better mark and I definitely worked as we pulled out a 70.32%!! We won the first class and got a very good mark in the second, but didn't stay to the end, as I went HC to give the younger riders a chance! Very pleased with Woody today and looking forward to Carlton BE80+, hopefully our last 80cm 🙏 as we are trying to get in the area team for eventing!! How exciting my first website and blog post! Hopefully I will be blogging all my events and things me and the team get up to! I will let you know via Instagram If I have published a new blog post, so look out!! |
